§ elmet

The extent of the Upper Calder Valley (Hebden Bridge, Mytholmroyd) was surveyed with a gps device by Rob Lycett on foot and in a car, for submission to the Openstreetmap project.

The resulting map layer has been used in a number of subsequent projects (spiral walks, 49 waltzes etc), and resulted in this map (upper image) of walks and locations relating to the poems of Ted Hughes.

This survey took three years to complete, and has become valuable groundwork for future cartographers (who have added field boundaries and buildings for example).
